With the many changes 2020 brought, one positive shift we’ve seen has been a large jump in OER use here at Douglas College. From Winter 2020 to Winter 2021, the total number of courses that have replaced commercial textbooks for OER textbooks or resources has doubled in the past year. This shift has not only boosted the OER movement, it has saved students hundreds of thousands of dollars, from $170,695 in savings in Winter 2020, to $355,888 in Winter 2021. Our thanks go out to these faculty for adapting their courses to integrate OERs. Your decision to use OERs is directly affecting Douglas College students by reducing their financial burden to buy textbooks and other resources.
